What is Hypnosis

Whenever you find yourself absorbed in a state of imagining, deep thinking, or focus turned inward, you are actually in a mild hypnotic state. "Highway Hypnosis" or "White Line Fever" is common to those who take long road trips and find themselves in an altered state. Even reading with heightened interest, as you are doing now, can produce a moderate hypnotic condition.

How Does It Feel To Be In Hypnosis?

The trance state is one of tranquility and warm drowsiness. You feel in a half-dreaming state, aware of the words being spoken to you, but beyond any feelings of care, worry, or concern.

Hypnosis is simply the frame of mind you experience when you are deeply concentrating on something. It is a completely natural function of the brain that takes place during the process of learning or contemplation. In this state of being extremely interested, your intense focus blocks out all awareness of outside stimuli.

Because your subconscious mind can't distinguish between what you imagine and what actually happens, it believes that these changes have taken place. The suggestions become the guide for new ways of thinking and acting.

Is Hypnosis Safe?

Since the hypnotic state is a fully natural one, which actually occurs often throughout any given day, it is impossible to become "trapped" in a trance, just as it is impossible to become "trapped" in the fantasies, speculations, or intensely focused thoughts that we all know and experience as "Daydreams."

Will I Lose Control?

Since all hypnotic states are created by the self and actually directed by your own mind, if any thoughts or actions are suggested which are not in agreement with your own beliefs when you are awake, the trance will end and you will immediately regain full consciousness.

The purpose of hypnotherapy is to assist clients in reaching their own solutions and creating change within their own inner selves. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis.

Contrary to popular belief, you cannot be hypnotized against your will or be forced while in a hypnotic state to act in a way that will violate your wishes.

You will hear the therapist's words but you will reject any ideas that are not in agreement with your own morals, ethics and welfare. You retain complete VETO POWER even when deeply entranced.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotized?

Trance is a frequently occurring state. All people can and do go into a hypnotic trance state naturally. However, it is a common experience to be unsure whether or not you've been "in hypnosis," especially if the trance state was relatively light.

Hypnotists often suggest some physical reaction to occur after the session, so that the person will recognize that he has indeed been in trance. This is always a harmless post-hypnotic suggestion, such as a feeling of stiffness in one arm.

The work of hypnotherapy will be accomplished no matter what the subjective experience of the patient, because it works within the subconscious mind.

Is Hypnosis a Legitimate Form of Treatment?

Clinical hypnotherapy is endorsed by physicians, dentists, midwives, psychotherapists, and more.

Hypnosis was approved by the AMA in 1958 for use in many medical, dental, and psychological treatments to provide relief for those conditions found to be resistant to more traditional methods. Hypnosis can also provide relief from the discomfort and pain associated with certain medical procedures and treatments.

Hypnosis has become so widely used by the medical community, that such prestigious medical centers as Stanford University Hospital ,  Kaiser Permanente, Cancer Consultants Resource Center, and the University of Washington Harborview Burn Center have in-house clinical hypnosis resources.

Hypnosis is most commonly known for its use in habit control, performance enhancement and eliminating fears and phobias. Hypnosis is not intended to cure disease but rather to relieve symptoms of illness. Hypnosis has been effective in relieving pain associated with surgery, paralysis, and childbirth. Also, it is widely used to control addictions to drugs, alcohol, food, and smoking. Hypnosis can reduce stress by increasing relaxation, offering positive suggestions, and eliminating negative thoughts. Studies have shown that hypnosis can help with anxiety, insomnia, phobias, obesity, allergies, asthma, and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is also found to reduce cancer-related pain, nausea, and vomiting. In hypnotherapy, hypnosis is combined with cognitive therapy (talk and reason therapy) for the most effective results.

Most problems are resolved in a few sessions (four to eight) depending on the complexity of the issue.

Do I Have to Come to Your Office?

Larisa has been conducting distance hypnotherapy sessions by telephone for more than five years. She has developed techniques for inducing trance with sound cues rather than the visual cues more often employed for in-person sessions.

Since you close your eyes during the process of induction whether in person or by telephone, the experience and effects are the same.

Distance hypnosis works just as well by phone, video, or Skype.
